What is NURTURE?

NURTURE is a capacity-building project within Sub-Programme 1: Education and Teacher Training. The project improves the capacity of three education programs (eHealth, informatics, and special needs) in five universities in Ethiopia and two universities and one research institute in Norway. The project offers a response to the quest for rethinking higher education in LMICs by prioritizing quality of education, job creation, improved digital access, and inclusion of female and disadvantaged groups. This project will create synergy in eHealth, informatics, and special needs education and create opportunities for interdisciplinary education, research, and digitalization that have been neglected due to lack of management, governance, and innovation. Through staff capacity development, inter-disciplinary research, curricula revitalization, and digitalization, the project enhances social cohesion, sustainable development, active citizenship, and personal and institutional fulfillment. By providing a platform for co-creation and boot camp seminars for graduate students, the project contributes in tackling youth unemployment and also in enhancing student innovativeness and career development. NURTURE implements three new master programs, revise 16 curricula, support 45 MSc, & 15 Ph.D. scholarships. The project will also develop digital solutions for students with sensory impairments, organize boot camp seminars, and strengthen access to digital content through eLearning platforms and small-scale infrastructure. Gender equality will be a priority throughout the whole project period and in all interventions. Fifty percent of the scholarships will be offered to female staff. Besides, we will provide financial support for economically deprived and disadvantaged female students from all partner universities.
